I had no idea what a Golden Birthday was until this order came in. J wants to order a cake for her Son who is turning 13 on the 13th of November. So he wants a big cake with a BIG gold 13 and 13 cupcakes surrounding the cake. Ok sure, I can do that Commence research…

According to Urban Dictionary: The ‘Golden Birthday’ is the day where a human being turns the same age as the date to which they were born (Example, turning Twelve on the 12th of October). All humans will experience this day, whether it be when they are one years old or 31 years old; that is to say, except for a select few individuals born on the leap year – sadly, these humans will never experience the Goldenness of such a day and are forced to live out their lives in anguish and despair.

It goes on to state magical powers being associated with your Golden Birthday…too bad I missed mine 4 years ago! Why am I just finding this out! Bummer. Oh well, good information to know for future children, clients etc

So in review, a Golden Birthday is when the number of your day of birth matches how old you actually are (so turning 13 on the 13th) Got it!

So now on to the Golden Birthday Cake! All that was requested other than a huge golden 13 was bright colors and sports toppers for the cupcakes, oh and mocha flavored buttercream for the birthday boy. This is what I came up with for the cake!

The topper is made of modeling chocolate covered in an edible gold luster dust.

Tried to keep the colors fun but not too kidish The cake also had 13 matching cupcakes with a sports themed topper.

I really hope I get to do more golden birthday themed parties. I think they could be really cool and fun to do!
