Shabby Chic Wedding Inspiration

Shabby Chic Wedding Inspiration

I love a beautiful shabby chic wedding. Vintage colors like pink, peach, ivory and grey mixed with natural woods and rustic finishing touches make me swoon! I was recently tasked to create a shabby chic cake based off this inspiration board for the upcoming Marry Me event where over 70 cakes and bridal bouquets are on display for brides.

I decided to focus on the soft grey for the base of my cakes design and then accent the surface with a damask stencil. I softened the clean lines with some edible white food color sponge painting on fondant to give the cake a “distressed” look. I chose to make a ton of sugar flowers in pink, yellow, peach and green tones. I really enjoy making sugar flowers, the process is really relaxing for me for some reason.

Grey has been a strong trend in 2012 and I predict it will move on into 2013. Grey is so easily paired with so many different colors and tones. It can add a modern touch or a vintage touch depending on the style of the cake and the design.

There are a few key elements that make the shabby chic look. Think of these when accenting your wedding designs.

Pearls
Muted Colors
Neutral Accents
Vintage Lace Accents
Distressed Surfaces
Bird Cages
Ruffles
China Patterns
Crystal Chandeliers
Vintage Trunks
